The Space Between: Finding Real Calm This Canadian Thanksgiving

The dust is finally settling after the full moon fall harvest, and just like that, Canadian Thanksgiving is knocking on our doors.

I’ve always loved this time of year, but I love it most when things are kept uncomplicated. Not overly simplified, but stripped of the extra noise.

Working closely with the senior population, you pick up on the real secrets to a good life pretty quickly. It usually comes down to three things: a good sense of humour, a deep, full breath, and taking the time to slow down and just think together. That connection and togetherness is where the real gifts in life are hidden.

Stepping Away from the Hallmark Card

It is so easy to say "take time for yourself to reflect." It is much harder to actually do it without feeling like you're reading a cheesy greeting card. But the need for it is real.

I find it incredibly hard to carve out time for myself, and I know most of you do too. Life moves fast. But when I do manage to steal a few quiet moments, I try to make the absolute most of them.

It makes me wonder, do people slow down enough to understand how and where they produce their best results and recalibrate?

Where do you think best?

Where are the physical places where your heart rate naturally lowers, you find your inner calm, and you actually have the space to build special memories?

A lot of questions, I know! Trust in the power of knowing the answers and the gift of the journey to the places it takes you. Solo or together.

For me, those moments often happen on the water, surrounded by the vastness of our landscape. In August I did my first 90km paddle on the Rideau Canal in Canada. Lots of stories to tell on that one.

To give you a little piece of that peace, I wanted to share a few beautiful scenery shots from my journeys connecting with nature:

Meet our new companion! If you have followed my blogs, I truly believe in the healing power of pets and the joy they bring to people of all ages. In my business I see first hand how loneliness affects people negatively, it is so sad. When appropriate both pet and person can create a bond that is transformational.

My Wish for You This Weekend

This is my genuine wish for Canadians celebrating Thanksgiving this year. I hope you find that specific spot whether it's a quiet corner of your porch, a trail in the woods, or a kitchen table filled with laughter that brings you back to centre.

Over to You

Have a safe, slow, and wonderfully uncomplicated Thanksgiving.
