Happy Friday - I hope your week has been great.
Today is World Diabetes Day!
What does that mean to you? Perhaps nothing or perhaps everything!
If you have been personally touched by Diabetes, you will know there are a few things you need to do to put your best foot forward for living a long beautiful life. That’s actually how I started Live Blue Consulting, not the medical part of managing Diabetes but rather talking to people about the benefits of moving your body.
While there are many misconceptions of what diabetes is, there is one very alarming fact! It is growing in most countries at a very alarming rate. 1 in 3 people in the USA and Canada will have a brush with a diagnosis.
After 6 years of learning more about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, what shocks me the most are the Pre- Diabetes statistics. While I do not issue medical advice or take on the role of understanding how food affects each person independently, I can assure you I have seen many people improve their life when they have made the choice to understand how food affects their blood sugar and introduced an active lifestyle.
Along the way I have met children who have learned to self manage their diagnosis through nutrition and lifestyle, and everyday at work I see seniors who are telling me about their progress or pitfalls.
The thing is, everyday someone is battling something we know nothing about. For those living with diabetes, every choice when it comes to food or movement is that much more important to regulate blood sugar lows or highs.
The best thing I can figure is to educate yourself, however you choose to do that.
When I got started learning how to be of assistance with my lifestyle business to others, it was really hard! Either I was being judged, criticized or laughed out of a room. I had no business being in the lifestyle coaching world.
What I learned is people have to walk their own path in life, if they want advice they will ask!
Just do not preach.
Learning that lesson took a few years and understanding the best approach was providing space for people to talk. Through in person presence and listening to peoples struggles I could offer sound bits of advice that made a difference. Again, it was not medical advice it is daily practical advice that they new already, they just needed to unlock the information and put a plan of action in place to get into a habit that would help.
I love hearing people’s stories, and when your in the business of people you understand a illness does not define a person. So much is possible and in our control. Making mistakes, trial and error and tying again is all part of the recipe.
I hope you have an amazing weekend.

PS - Today an older gentleman asked me to bring him bread that he could actually eat that would not spike his blood sugar:-)❤️
All breads lower on the Glycemic index would be suggestions only, remembering all foods act differently for each person. Our gut is as unique as our fingerprint.
PSS Today was a crazy water day for me, windy….
